Riding Riga

Just a short video taken whilst riding along Riga’s newest bike path, in the one place we have to ourselves; without cars, without pedestrians. Unfortunately, the majority of  riding in Riga is not this easy. Cobblestones, trolleybuses, drunks and cliff-like curbs make it an adventure. Still, if you are up to the challenge, join us on a bike tour today!

The coolest place in Riga!

The Swimming Pool Bar, originally uploaded by Riga Bike Tours.

Actually, we haven’t set foot inside “Baseins” yet, but from the name alone it sounds like a great place to cool off this summer. The temperature will hit 30 today, maybe we’ll pop by the “Swimming Pool” and take the plunge. Or maybe just a beer. You’ll find it wedged between Cuba and Spot Cafes on Jauniela, near the Dome Square.

Riga’s Hipsters

Just another fixie, originally uploaded by Riga Bike Tours.

The hipster craze has finally reached Riga! After some early warning signs last summer, the city has been swamped by the i phone/pad/book loving, fixed gear riding, fluro wearing scenesters. We, being a safety oriented bunch, do not approve of this reckless, brakeless fad. There are only so many old ladies you can scare and red lights you can run before people start to get upset. We want to promote a positive image of cycling, not a rude and dangerous one. There ends my rant.

Bike Tours are go!

Bike Tours are go!, originally uploaded by Riga Bike Tours.

Ok, they started a while ago to be honest, but I never got around to posting any photos. Here, one group for New Zealand takes a break to join with this rather relaxed statue and admire the views of the old town across the Daugava river. Our tours are now running every day, at 12:00 and 15:00 from the town hall square or by private booking. Check out www.rigabicycletours.com for more info.
